Gifts of Youth — English Bac SGC

Dans le programme du Bac SGC

English carries a coefficient of 2 in the Bac Sciences de Gestion Comptable (SGC) stream — far behind Accounting (coefficient 8) and Business Organisation (coefficient 6), and level with Philosophy and Law. It is part of the margin that decides rankings and honours, and its mark is raised by method rather than by volume.

À l'épreuve

Three parts: Reading Comprehension, Language, and Writing (about 180 words). An accountant's discipline in ordering and justifying entries transfers to a well-ordered essay plan and a clearly sequenced argument.

Objectifs d'apprentissage

Reuse this vocabulary field in the Bac SGC Reading answers and in the argumentative essay (coefficient 2)
Use the vocabulary of qualities linked to youth: energy, enthusiasm, idealism, curiosity, adaptability
Describe the potential and contributions of the young: innovation, creativity, activism, volunteering
Balance with the challenges of youth: inexperience, lack of patience, vulnerability to peer pressure
Build an argumentative paragraph that illustrates a quality with a concrete example

Notions clés

The positive qualities of youth

energy, enthusiasm, idealism, curiosity, adaptability — often called on to face rapid change (technology, climate, society).

Concrete contributions

innovation, creativity, activism, volunteering, entrepreneurship — young people are presented as drivers of social and technological change in many programme texts.

Challenges and nuances

inexperience, impatience, vulnerability to peer pressure — a good essay acknowledges these limits to avoid a one-sided text.

Erreurs fréquentes

Writing an essay that only praises youth with no nuance: a balanced development that also recognises limits (inexperience) scores better.

Confusing idealism (holding high ideals, wanting to change the world) with naivety (a lack of realism, negative connotation): the first is positive, the second can be pejorative.

Using youth only as an abstract noun (the idea of being young) without knowing it also refers to young people themselves as a collective plural (“today's youth are more connected than ever”).

Exemple corrigé

Énoncé

Write a sentence illustrating the quality “idealism” in young people with a concrete example.

Correction

Name the quality explicitly. Use the word idealism to show command of the chapter's vocabulary.

Result. “Many young people's idealism drives them to join climate activism movements, believing they can still change the course of the planet's future.”

Questions fréquentes

Why balance qualities and limits in an essay about youth?

A purely praising essay lacks critical distance, a scoring criterion in the Writing section; presenting a limit too (inexperience, impatience) shows a more mature, nuanced reflection.

What is the difference between idealism and naivety?

Idealism is positive: believing the world can improve and acting towards it. Naivety is more critical: a lack of realism or distance from the concrete difficulties of a project.

How do I connect this chapter to Moroccan current affairs in an essay?

By citing the engagement of young Moroccans in entrepreneurship, association volunteering or digital activism (social media, awareness campaigns) — concrete, close examples strengthen the argument.

English is coefficient 2 against 8 for accounting — how do I balance them?

Do not drop it: a mark in English weighs in the average like a mark in any coefficient-2 subject, and raising it is a matter of method, not accumulation. One weekly session — chapter, rule or words, example, two short paragraphs — plus a fixed template for the introduction and conclusion is enough to secure the marks.

How do I use this theme in the Bac SGC essay without sounding generic?

Anchor each key term in one concrete, personal example — a place, a person, a situation you know. A specific illustration in accurate English scores better than a long list of terms with no support, on any of the society prompts in the programme.
